    Iran War 2026

Now that the fighting is basically over, the Europeans are willing to help secure their own energy supply...if it isn't too dangerous. I think Trump told them to just stay away. Oil prices are falling more rapidly than anyone except Trump expected, and the stock market is rising as well...

    Iran War 2026

Behind the scenes, Macron is threatening to strengthen ties with China to retaliate against Trump, and one commentator said that the one thing that could happen that would be worse than Iran and Russia controlling Europe's energy supply would be for the Democrats to take Congress in 2026 and the...

    Irish protest.

I didn't know that Ireland even had an army or military. I can just imagine what would happen if we had such demonstrations in this country.

We have two rakes. Some may recall a photo I posted on the old forum of my wife and dog at the time shoveling the house roof. We haven't had to do that since 2022-2023. I hope we never do again.

    What's your Weather like today

Above freezing (barely) during the days now, but nights are still in the teens F. Snow is beginning to melt a little.

My hands are the only thing that really gets cold. It is a new thing that has come upon me with age. I don't do a lot outside anymore since 1) we no longer have livestock except chickens, 2) we no longer heat with wood except in emergencies, 3) we don't have a dog team any more. I do get on...

    Seasons

Technically spring here, but we still have at least a foot of snow covering the ground and the temps barely get above freezing during the day and get down into the teens F. during the night. No trees budding or flowers visible probably for another month at least.

    Iran War 2026

Unfortunately, oil is priced worldwide so despite an ample supply here in North America, the price of oil on the world markets determine everything. It is a bit like gold. Much of Europe gets their oil through the Strait of Hormuz but the governments there say it is not their concern if the...

What books have you been reading lately?

Did it have a co-author listed? The big names often start passing their celebrity to lesser authors as they age. If it says "James Patterson with John Doe", you can bet the John Doe wrote the book and Patterson had little or nothing to do with it. Sometimes they pass it on to their children...

    What's your Weather like today

Still below 0 F. this morning, but the days are pleasant with temps in the 20s F. and lots of sunshine.

Has anyone here been affected by tariffs?

I just saw one commentator announce that the EU has moved to drop all tariffs on the U.S. and passed a law encouraging mass deportations from Europe. He said the Centrists have joined the Conservatives to outvote the Liberal wing of the EU parliament. I have no idea if any of it is true, but...

    Iran War 2026

Anyone who trusts the New Yorker to keep them posted as to what is happening in the White House is an idiot.

    Iran War 2026

I don't think it will be a long war, but it may last a couple months. No, Trump isn't a madman. I suspect something may be done to Kharg Island in order to control the Strait of Hormuz, as even China wants the strait to remain open.

What books have you been reading lately?

The Sea and Poison a rather tough book to read about Japan near the end of WWII and treatment of U.S. prisoners and their own sick patients. Originally written in Japanese and offered in translation.

What's the Best Thing that Happened to You in the Last 24 Hours?

I think the paw-paw was once called the Nebraska banana. I have never had one though.
