Last thing you've done when offline?

String trimmed around the fence and trees. I can't get used to not having extension cords to drag around. The battery lasted all the way around the fence and still had more juice left. My arms didn't do as well. Out of shape over the winter.

Sphaerobolus stellatus ("sphere thrower") The Artillery Fungus (aka, Shotgun Fungus) Washing this Ranger has evolved into a 3-day learning experience. One day I might rival Cliffy Claven as an encyclopedia of useless information. When you do a good job washing a vehicle you are forced to...

Yes. The female builds the nest all by herself. Occasionally the male will bring a pine needle, but she puts it where it belongs. In fairness, the males do more than their share when it comes to feeding the little ones.

4/16/26 The bluebird pair brought 2 babies to the deck today. They were several days out of the nest. Only 2 would be par for the course for them, but maybe there are more. I'll keep checking. The male bluebird entered my bluebird house earlier this morning. Bluebird males check out several...

Washed the Ranger yesterday. It was a big job. Had to use a toothbrush to get tree pollen out of the seams. I'm impressed with the paint job. Every single stain came off of it and not a single scratch or nick. It only has 10,000 miles on it, but I've had it 4.5 years sitting out in the sun...

    What have you done today?

Washed the Ranger (pickup truck) yesterday. Lots of work. Makes me miss my little old Honda Civic, where you could reach across and wash the top without a step stool.

If my calculations are correct, that would be about $10 US dollars per gallon? Yikes! A girl who works in my doctor's office is from the Philippines. She still has family there. They are closing schools on a rotating basis to save energy. Even worse in Cuba. I'm sorry, Smithy. Please...

(4/15/26) This part is finished. Weight: Based on the green line and average calories per day, maintenance calories for the period calculates to about 1664/day. That is consistent with online calculators assuming "moderate" ( ) exercise. Calories: The black line is average...

Today was the last day of what turned out to be a 100-day diet. Final weigh-in tomorrow morning. I worked hard today to hopefully make it a loss instead of a gain, from this morning. Only 710 calories and very little salt. Dumped 6 bags of leaves and the honeysuckle bush in the...

It looks like the bluebirds finally discouraged the chickadees from my birdhouse. I saw them chase the chickadees away several times, and I don't usually watch much. The male bluebird made 2 trips to the deck today and carried off mouthfuls of seeds. Wherever he went was a very short flight...

What video are you watching on YouTube?

I watch the splash down of the Artemis II crew on NASA's YouTube channel, including all of the recovery, and their helicopter flights to the ship. It took almost 2 hours. Fascinating.

There are two bushes in the front yard, intertwined at the roots, both terribly overgrown, like small trees. One is a mock orange. The other is an invasive bush honeysuckle. The leaves look very similar, but the blossoms couldn't be more different. (click to enlarge) Unlike the vining...

    Last thing you threw/binned away?

Socks. Well, sort of. Dumped all the socks in my sock drawer into a large clothes basket. Matched the pairs and removed all the ones with holes, red clay stains, or stretched out tops. Not quite thrown away yet. I put all the cotton discards in a plastic bag to be used for dust cloths...

4/2/26 Thursday Visit to the dermatologist went well. The doctor wasn't there. I saw a PA. Although I never went to kindergarten, I imagine she was what a kindergarten teacher would be like if I were in her class. She had a device with a spout that looked like one of my dad's old oil cans...

What do you think of DiscussionHQ?

The Admin sets the tone for a forum. You are the best, @Smithy. Your gracious personality is contagious. Please think twice about starting a thread inviting members to opine on what they like, and, more importantly, what they DON'T like, about the forum. The list will get so long, it will...
